The client wanted to renovate a small 600 sft structure to use as a weekend getaway home for 2-4 people. The proposal called for the ground level to allow for natural light to enter the living spaces, so inner courts were included to provide both light and ventilation. Large 8 feet high glass sliding doors were also used to bring in additional light. The existing structure was retained as much as possible, with the exception of the roof, which was removed and replaced with an additional floor. This additional floor created a distinction between public and private spaces, with the lower floor accommodating a fold out bed and the top floor featuring a permanent bed. Overall, the renovation was designed to make use of natural light and create functional living spaces for the client.
