Traffic Study and Junction Design – Aluva, Kerala

A traffic study is an analysis of the movement of vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles within a particular area. The purpose of a traffic study is to gather data on the volume, speed, and patterns of traffic in order to understand the current state of transportation in the area and identify any potential issues or concerns. This information can be used to develop and implement solutions to improve the flow of traffic and enhance the safety and efficiency of the transportation system. Traffic studies may involve collecting data through observation, surveys, or the use of sensors or other technology. The data collected in a traffic study may be analyzed using statistical methods or software tools to identify trends and patterns.

The Indian Road Congress (IRC) is a national organization in India that develops standards, guidelines, and recommendations for the design, construction, maintenance, and management of roads, highways, and bridges in the country. These IRC standards cover a wide range of topics related to road transportation, including materials, pavement design, geotechnical engineering, drainage, traffic engineering, and safety. The IRC standards are based on current best practices and are regularly updated to reflect the latest advances in technology and research. They are widely used by transportation professionals in India, as well as other countries, as a reference for the development and management of road transportation infrastructure. The IRC standards are voluntary, but they are often adopted by governments and other organizations as the basis for their own regulations and guidelines.

This design and proposal was completed as part of the infrastructure studio at Manipal University. It is linked to Neighborhood planning for Aluva Proposal
